Des Plantes Françaises. Rien d’Autre
Most herbal infusions sold today follow the same quiet compromise. The plants are dried, ground to powder, blended with added flavourings, and sealed into individual bags that are convenient, predictable, and not particularly interesting. It turns out that the most efficient way to make tea at scale was also the most effective way to strip it of character.
Romatic was founded on a different premise: that if you start with genuinely good plants, whole leaves and flowers rather than ground powder, grown nearby rather than shipped from the other side of the world, and you don’t add anything at all, the result will be better. Not marginally better. Noticeably, unmistakably better.
Romatic is based in Saint-Thibéry, a small commune in the Hérault department of southern France, in the heart of Occitanie. This is not a random choice. The region has been cultivating aromatic and medicinal plants for generations- lavender, verbena, peppermint, sage, nettle, lemon thyme- plants that have been woven into the food, the medicine, and the daily rituals of local life for centuries.
Every plant that goes into a Romatic product is sourced from within France, and the vast majority from within a 200-kilometre radius of the workshop where it is processed and packaged. The team works directly with ten local producers, all certified organic, all farming in ways that have been refined over many years. Romatic know exactly who grows each plant, how it was tended, and when it was harvested.
In an industry where “natural” often means little more than a marketing choice, that level of traceability is genuinely rare.
The difference between a Romatic infusion and most of what you’ll find on a supermarket shelf comes down to one decision made very early in the process: to use whole leaves and flowers, never powder.
Grinding a plant into powder increases surface area, which speeds up extraction and makes for a fast, uniform brew. It also accelerates the degradation of volatile aromatic compounds and active plant constituents- the things that give an infusion its flavour and its character. Whole leaves, by contrast, release their oils and beneficial compounds more slowly and more completely, producing an infusion with more depth, more aroma, and more of whatever the plant was meant to offer.
The quality is high enough that the same leaves can be steeped at least twice- something that becomes quietly satisfying once you’ve tried it.
There are no added flavourings, preservatives or hidden ingredients of any kind. The blends contain 34 plant varieties in total, and every recipe was developed in collaboration with a naturopath, with specific attention paid to how different plants interact with one another and what they offer when combined thoughtfully.
Romatic’s infusion range is organised around purpose as well as pleasure. The core collection covers sleep, digestion, detox, and vitality- each blend carefully constructed to be genuinely useful, not just vaguely wellness-adjacent. Alongside these sit the “Les Sud” range, a collection inspired by the specific plants and flavours of the south of France: verbena, lavender, peppermint, and a Camargue blend that manages to be both distinctive and entirely natural.
Beyond infusions, Romatic also produces organic salts and aromatics, and plant-infused sugars- a quiet extension of the same philosophy into the kitchen. All products are packaged in recyclable, plastic-free materials.
Romatic is formally registered as an entreprise à mission — a French legal designation for companies that embed a social or environmental purpose into their founding documents. It is not a certification awarded by a third party; it is a statutory commitment, legally binding, that the company’s objectives go beyond profit.
In Romatic’s case, that mission is to support French organic agriculture, sustain local plant-growing traditions, and offer people something genuinely nourishing and transparent. Every purchase is, in a small way, a vote for the farmers and the landscapes that produced it.
Why we love Romatic
Well... that is easy. When I opened my first pack of Romatic infusion, I was bowled over with the quality of the leaves- they were huge! The scent was incredibly fresh and larger than life. Then the taste.. it is as you would expect. I love Romatic's dedication to quality and transparency and their love and pride of their Occitanie region.
